Out of doors
Front gardenThe outside door in the flat's left wall, at the living-room end, opens onto it. Press E at the door.
Two bedsPlant a crop, water it, then lift it when it has grown.
LawnMow it. It comes back after a week.
The driveBuy a second-hand car and it sits on the drive.
The gateAt the end of the garden. It opens on Ridgeway Road, and the bus stop is a few steps to your left.
Where everything is
Ridgeway RoadYour street. Flat 4 is on the north side, the bus stop is directly outside its front door, and the notice board on Market Square prints a map of the town.
Market SquareThe town centre, a few minutes up the road. Nine shopfronts stand around one square of paving, with the market cross in the middle and the notice board on the north side.
North sideNorthgate Surgery, the Ridgeway Launderette, Kaur Stores and Pixel and Pad, left to right.
West sideRidgeway Systems, Northgate Chemist and Northern Light Media.
East sideNorthern Counties Bank, then The Ridgeway Cafe.
South sideThe bus stop, and the way back to Ridgeway Road.
Where the work isFour of the five vacancies are behind counters on the square: Pixel and Pad on the north side, Ridgeway Systems and Northern Light Media on the west, and Northern Counties Bank on the east. The fifth is the cafe. Walk in, stand at the counter, press E.
The Ridgeway CafeA hot meal, soup, or coffee and a bun, and a table by the window to sit at. It carries the fifth vacancy, the early shift behind the counter.
Northgate EstateFour miles out, the warehouses and the loading line, where the bus ends up. Nothing you have to go there for: every vacancy is on the square.
Getting around
The 43One route, three stops, the same fare on every leg. It runs Ridgeway Road, Market Square, Northgate Estate, and back.
The stopsOutside your front door, on the south side of Market Square, and at the estate.
Using itPress E at the shelter and pick where you are going. Walking between the street and the square is free and always offered, so a fare you cannot pay never leaves you stuck.
TaxisThe Taxis app on the iPhone. A car will come to the flat, the garden or the street, and it will also take you to the square. A Taxi Membership in Subscriptions fixes the fare at £6 and drops the late surcharge.
On strike daysIf the board says the 43 is off the road, no bus runs all day from any stop. The walk is still there.
Finding your way
NextThe slab under the clock always names the next thing worth doing, and the line under it names the keys. Neither ever has to be dismissed.
StuckIn the pause menu. It puts you back on solid ground in the place you are standing, and costs you nothing.
Controls
WASDWalk: W forwards, S back, A step left, D step right
▲◀▼▶The same four moves, and they also pick a line in a menu
On screenWhile a key is held, and for a moment after you let it go, a card at the bottom left names the move: Stepping right means you are going right, and the room itself slides the other way, as it does in any first person view.
